Lindenhurst Massage Scandal

A lot of people criticized the girl's grandmother for "letting this happen". I say kudos to the young woman for speaking up and to the grandmother for staying home during the appointment. My greatest relief though is that this man went to her house, instead of HER going to HIS house. Couldn't imagine what would have happened had it been the other way around...

I'm equally impressed with the Lindenhurst Police Department. They really came through with the investigation, which makes me feel a lot better about being a massage therapist that goes to people's houses!

For those living under a rock, I could not find a link to the full story so it must not be up anymore. But basically a man posing as a massage therapist did a drawing to give away free massages and went to a girl's house where he acted inappropriately during the massage. She called for her grandmother and the man left. After the initial story ran, several people came forward to say the same thing happened to them. A suspect was identified and upon his search that suspect fled the country. I think they may still be looking for him, but am not for certain on that. Either way, I hope all of the women involved can move forward from their experience and still be able to enjoy massage therapy from the real professionals.

Triathlon training & massage

I had eight weeks to get ready for my first triathlon this summer, so I designed this intense training plan to prepare for the race. Going through the training reminded me of high school and how I could have REALLY used a massage therapist back then, had I had one. (My track and field coach had no mercy.)

So one day I realized how much I looked forward to my regular massage each week – and the huge difference it made for me in recovery time and muscle development. It then occurred to me that some people work out all the time without getting massage at all! I don't get it. You don't want to be one of those stiff muscular people, do you? No. You want to stay flexible, fluid and healthy throughout your training. Massage does that for you. So thank goodness I had massage to get me through all that training!!

Anyway, in the end, none of my friends who were supposed to be doing the race with me even trained for it! Slackers. And since my swimming was still completely atrocious and I surely would have drowned in that freezing cold deepwater lake, I decided to wait another season. Excuses, excuses. But I will be back next year. All you triathletes better watch out!

4th of July 5K/10K Run

The 2008 Run for the Arts race in downtown Barrington, IL on Friday morning brought over 500 participants from Barrington and surrounding towns. The weather was perfect! Two of my fellow therapists and I volunteered post-race massages for the participating athletes. I always enjoy doing sports massage at events like this - it's a lot of fun!

Sponsors included Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Health and Fitness Center, Dick Pond Athletics, Nutrisoda, Walter E. Smithe, Complete Cleaning Company, Wickstrom, Harris Bank, Barrington Chocolate and Ice Cream Shoppe, Barrington Rehab, Kleen Air Service Corporation, bathhaus, Echo Graphics, and Gilcor Construction.
